Rugby World Cup Format
The tournament starts on 20th September and runs through to 2nd November. Twenty teams will start and there will be a total of 48 matches. These consist of 40 pool matches, where each team will play each other once – four games per team – ten games per pool. This will be followed by the quarter-finals – four matches, then the semi-finals – 2 matches, the final and the third-place playoff.

This year, the World Cup will run between 20th September until2nd November. Overall, there are 20 teams competing and there will be 48 matches in total – with 40 coming from the pool stages, followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals, final and third-place playoff.
The point system is a little different from the scoring system in football, and it isn’t just decided by win lose or draw. The amount of tries a team gets also affects their score for the match. In fact, it is possible to lose a match and still get a couple of points. In general, the team will get 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw and none for a loss, but other bonus points and factors can come into play. For example, score over 4 tries and get a bonus point.
